Kristin Weber HEADLINES BRANTFORD’S CLEAN COMEDY TOUR
UpStanding Comedy is a circuit of clean comedy shows in Canada that’s beginning its fifth year of success. Saturday evening, January 30th, Brant Community Church hosted the circuits 100th show. The crowd consisted of about sixty-five people, fifty percent of which were return lovers of clean comedy. Timmy mentioned the Guelph show attendance is just under two hundred people, and I’m confident Brantford will reach those numbers soon. Tickets for shows are available in advance for $12.00, or $15.00 at the door. The circuit will be returning to Brantford on April 5th through 9th with their comedic headliner, and stunt comedy performer: Max Winfrey.
These clean comedians gave Brantford an incredible evening of continued laughter and applause. The show started at 7:15pm and continued until 9:30pm. The Real Timmy Boyle, the founder of UpStanding Comedy, treated the crowd with his laid back and witty humour as he hosted the event. Mr. Boyle is an accomplished stand-up comedian, and author whose already sold out his recent book “Inside Timmy’s Mind”. This achievement speaks directly to his popularity and excellence. He’s been performing stand-up comedy during the past nine years, and one of his goals is to prove that Canadian comedians are highly sought after because they provide excellent clean family content. UpStanding Comedy is certainly proving this within Ontario offering shows in Barrie, Sarnia, Chatham and Guelph. Toronto, Milton and Belleville are cities that hope to be permanently added to tours. The quality of local talent offered is refreshing and inspiring as well.
Alex Bowman, an amateur comedian and new to the circuit, walked on stage with his ukulele and gave everyone the best three minutes of one liner jokes you could possibly ask for. He had the crowd laughing instantly, and continuously. The crowd’s admiration was intense with applause after his set. An incredible energy was in the room thanks to Alex for sharing his very well thought out jokes. Congratulations!
Brandon McCaskill took the stage with his guitar and sang us two very funny songs. One about love and Kraft Dinner, and the other included his wonderful Scottish accent. Not only did Brandon sing for us, he included many playful jokes and had the audience in stitches interacting with him. Perfect.
Between comedians, Timmy Boyle would entertain us with his amusing stories as he introduced each performer. Next up was Evan Dunne. Evan has performed with the circuit before, and it was a pleasure to see him again. A few of his topics included cooking, being a ‘ginger’, and his drug recovery adventures. Truly funny stuff. Evan began with telling us his set would be videotaped and he encouraged us to laugh a lot. Well, with Evan on stage, there was tons of laughing due to his exceptional performance. He’s high energy, very intense, and captured everyone with ease. Be sure to search his name on YouTube to watch tonight’s set.
Did you know that Timmy Boyle plays the piano? Triads are his specialty. There were some technical difficulties that were immediately solved by a volunteering audience member in the front row. Timmy carried on with his soothing music as he serenaded us with tales about wooden spoons, and sarcasm. He landed every single joke with perfection. Amazing. Cherie Ellis was sitting beside me in fits of laughter the whole night as she interacted with the comedians. I had the best seat in the house!
Brantford’s show ended the circuits tour with the incredible Kristin Weber headlining. She’s all the way from Colorado Springs, Colorado and there was plenty of friendly banter, and hilarious references about Canada vs the United States. She also had a musical instrument to play, a really cute ukulele. She delivered a wonderful and captivating show. Some topics included not being athletic, homeschooling, Christian references, sibling and dating life. She’s tricky with her one liners, and very creative conveying her comical adventures and ideas. The audience absolutely loved her talents. She’s engaging, witty, and she knows just how and when to shock her audience into bursts of laughter.
Timmy raffled off Kristin’s book titled “The Smart Girl’s Guide to God, Guys and the Galaxy” and Mr. Donnie Douglas was the happy winner of an autographed copy. Kristin is the first female comic to headline with UpStanding Comedy and currently the circuit is looking to showcase more female talent.
Social media, and word of mouth is very important to expanding these shows. If you attended this evening, please be sure to share you experience using the hashtag#thecircuitlive. If you would like regular updates about upcoming shows, please subscribe to: info@upstandingcomedy.ca.
The end of the evening included a heartwarming surprise. Brian Rushton, an upstanding member of Brant Community church, presented Timmy Boyle with a anniversary cake to celebrate the circuits 100th show. The cake was great and the comedy show was awesome! Thank you Brantford for supporting live comedy, and please follow BScene; your arts and entertainment source.
