BScene by Dean: Roots Revival at The Station
The Roots Revival at The Station Coffee House And Gallerytoday was one of the most entertaining to date, not only was the music that was coming from Cory Mercer, Joseph O’Connor and Matt Welbanks so good, it was actually getting people up and dancing. These guitarists are really something to listen to and watch. The expertise was something that most guitarists would dream about and when the fiddle is put into the mix it just fills out beautifully.
Before the show I was talking to Cory and Joseph and was surprised to hear that Joseph doesn’t even have an acoustic guitar of his own. I think that he definitely needs to get one if he keeps playing in venues such as this. I found it interesting that Matt on the fiddle didn’t seem to require any music to follow, if he didn’t know it he just listened for a bit and then started playing as if he knew it all along.
Although all three of the musicians do play together occasionally they really aren’t a group as such, but they sure sounded like they had been playing together for years and years. I thoroughly enjoyed this show and you would have too if you had been here. I am going to keep my eyes and ears open and watch for these player to pop up again because I want to see this ‘act’ again.
Thanks for the music guys and it was definitely a job very well done.
