Trio Jazz & Friends

It was an intimate setting in the lobby of the Sanderson Centreon Thursday, February 11th.

Sweet, saucy, sexy and soulful jazz was performed for a standing-room only crowd. The event came just in time for Valentine’s Day as romantics from around the area came to hear the wonderful sounds.

The talented Trio Jazz Band, and numerous local guest artists, lay down the beats in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Behind the Scene: 100 Guys Who Care

Energy was high and the intentions were clear: 100 guys would come together and make a large donation to a local charity. Inspired by other groups of 100 that have formed nationwide, this evening at the Brantford Golf & Country Club, was the first quarterly meeting of the newly founded 100 Guys Who Care Brantford for 2016.

Gentlemen from all over #Brantford / #Brant came together to learn about, and eventually vote on which local charity would receive the donation. Three charities presented, but it was an inspirational and motivational speech by Evan Braund, that sealed the deal. At the end of the evening, Guys Who Care, donated $5700 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Erie.

Business owners from Paris, Ontario and #BRANT County gathered at the The Paris Museum & Historical Society, for theParis and District Chamber of Commerce, February Business After Hours event. Visitors were given a tour of the facility and enjoyed learning more about the exciting history of the town of Paris.

The enchanting and alluring aroma of fresh cut flowers fills the air inside Brantford Blooms. From the moment you enter and are greeted by owner Olga, or one of her staff, you can rest assured that whatever your floral needs may be, that they will be filled. Olga has worked with flowers for over 15 years, she graduated from Mohawk College in Hamilton having taken courses in floral technique. She soon began a career at a local florist where she perfected her craft. In 2013 she opened Brantford Blooms and has garnered a wonderful reputation for her outstanding displays, wonderful service, and contributions to the community.

World Nutella Day 2016

The entire Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre was full of delight as people enjoyed the activities of World Nutella Day on Friday, February 5th.

The lobby and activity rooms were all packed with people experiencing the delicious spread with pancakes, desserts, and even two types of chili. The tasty treats were created for the Bakers Challenge and were brought in from the Blue Dog Coffee Roasters, Freedom House, Gus & Guidos, Home Baking By Carolyn, Rossini Lodge, Solely Cannoli, Strodes BBQ & Deli / Strodes Express, and SWEET Bakery. Guests were also greeted by the Hulk and Witch Hazel, Captain Kindness, and our Town Crier David McKee.

Make sure to Be Seen enjoying some scrumptious delights at the next event.

11th Annual Sports Recognition Banquet

The Ballroom of the Brantford Golf & Country Club was full of excitement and anticipation on Thursday, February 4th for the 11th Annual Sports Recognition Banquet. Many people came out to congratulate and support the efforts and dedication of the athletes and volunteers that were nominated. Each year, the Brantford Sports Council awards nominees through 10 award categories that honour leadership, volunteerism, and coaching.

Congratulations to the following award winners:

John Macklin Memorial – Coach of the Year: Sean Doucette

George Churchill Memorial – Sports volunteer of the Year: Frank Vieira

Dave Levac Award – Recognition to the Sports Official: Suzanne Paulins

Frank Bricker Memorial – Male Youth Leadership: Kyle Madden

Phyllis Gretzky Memorial – Female Youth Leadership: Kendra Van Leeuwen

Adrian Scherders Memorial – Sportsmanship and Dedication: Daniel Weagle

Jack Calbeck Memorial – Lifetime Sports Sponsorship: Brant Naval Veterans Association

Jimmy Wilkes Memorial – Team of the Year: St. John’s College Senior Girls Basketball

George Jones Memorial – Lifetime Volunteerism:
With 90 years of volunteerism between the nominees, it was decided to award all of them with the award this year
Todd Bannister, Bob Boos/Mick Ferras, Paul Yurcich

The final award was the 2015 Frank Tomlin Award for Brantford’s Sportsman of the Year. Congratulations to David Hearn for all his efforts in the sport of Golf.

D&D United Martial Arts – 2016 ICOMA World Championships

D&D United Martial Arts had eight competitors return from the 2016 ICOMA World Championships in Mexico. Bringing with them a total of 24 medals (eight gold, eight silver, & eight bronze) and two Triple Crown winners (three golds).

The awards were as follows:

Sensei Bryon Davis – three gold (weapons, forms, sparring) & one bronze (open) Triple Crown
Sempai Kelsey Cooper – one gold (forms), three silver (sparring, synchronized, open) & one bronze (weapons)
Linda Davis – one silver (weapons)
Sabrina Beecraft – two bronze (weapons, sparring)
Piper Force – three gold (weapons, sparring, chanbara) & one silver (forms) Triple Crown
Cole VonLukawiecki – one gold (forms), two silver (sparring, chanbara), & one bronze (weapons)
Lisa Brown – two bronze (weapons & forms)
Sydney Brown – one silver (weapons), & one bronze (forms)

Dave Levac visited D & D Martial Arts and awarded scrolls to the returning participants.
