Behind the Scene: Draw the Line
“Draw the Line”, the 9th annual Board Art Exhibit, presented the board’s focus on the arts. The gallery, hosted at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre in Brantford, beautifully showcased many unique pieces of student artwork. As families viewed the art the young artists beamed with pride. The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB) believes in having a strong concentration on the arts so that students can express themselves and feel a sense of recognition and confidence with the gallery viewings. There are three galleries in Brantford, Simcoe and Cayuga; so that all of the schools are included. The artwork was created by students in kindergarten through to grade twelve so there were a wide variety of excellent pieces of art. The art was done in many forms with materials such as: pastels, paint, clay, and pencil crayon, which added to the creative atmosphere of the event.
Danielle Boshcman hosted the first night, on Wednesday April 27th and I had a chance to speak with her about the wonderful occasion. There were also showings on Thursday April 28th and Friday April 29th for school visits and public visits. Danielle was very enthusiastic about the event, “Draw the Line”, and so were the students and families. Dave Levac was there to support the students’ artwork and presented the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board with a certificate of appreciation. We collectively agreed that it was an amazing way to give students confidence by creating art work, and that it was interesting to see the athletic and artistic worlds coming together at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre. Sometimes people see athleticism and artistic ability as two completely separate things. It was amazing to see students who excel in those areas complimenting each other and sharing ideas about their passions.
“Excellence in Learning ~ Living in Christ” was a prominent message of the night. The students and families that were at the event had a clear passion for making the most of learning, with the arts as a significant focus. “Draw the Line” helped to bring the community together to appreciate the talent of the students in the BHNCDSB. In addition to “Draw the Line”, there will be an Arts Night on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at theSanderson Centre to further address the students’ passion for art. Be sure to Be Seen at one of these fantastic events to support the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board!
